Falcons Soccer Club Sponsorship Policy
The Falcons Soccer Club strives to make soccer accessible to the community of Ottawa/Gatineau. As a not-for-profit organization, the Falcons Soccer Club will pursue sponsorship of its programs, teams and facilities to generate incremental revenue to offset costs incurred through the operation of the club and by members directly. All Falcons Soccer Club sponsors will uphold the Club’s mission, vision, and values. The Falcons Soccer Club will seek sponsors who help promote community, soccer, and/or healthy lifestyles. The Falcons Soccer Club reserves the right to decline any sponsorship proposal.
The Falcons Soccer Club is a not a recognized charity. Consequently, sponsorships are not eligible for a tax receipt as they are viewed as a business agreement in which the Company or Organization is receiving commercial benefit in return for the sponsorship.. This benefit usually takes the form of using their logo on signage or in advertising. The Falcons Soccer Club will provide a letter and unofficial receipt acknowledging the receipt of the payment to the sponsor.
In this type of business agreement, the business usually uses funds from a marketing or sponsorship budget, not a philanthropic budget. For those seeking sponsorship from companies or organizations, there is often a greater tax advantage for a business to claim their contribution as a business expense write-off than a charitable donation.
Sponsorship must be paid to the Falcons Soccer Club by cheque, cash, or e-transfer unless the sponsorship is in the form of corporate discount. The Falcons Soccer Club will pay for, or reimburse, for the services, or goods, outlined in the sponsorship agreement upon receipt of an official proof of purchase, or invoice.
The Falcons Soccer Club will not provide an in-kind tax receipt for the value of donated services.
Commercial and/or corporate sponsorship of a team is allowed within the following bounds:
- Crest or imprint on the Falcons uniform provided it is respectful (in the judgment of the Falcons Board) and there is no more than 2 crests, badges or imprints per uniform.
- Banner and signs that are displayed where the team plays provided it is permited by the venue.
- If the team has a social media page the sponsor can be mentioned, and logo displayed as long as it does not appear that the club endorses the sponsor.
- It is recommended that some form of a thank you letter, certificate of appreciation, team picture, or plaque be donated to the business where it may be displayed in public.
The Falcons Soccer Club will not accept sponsorship from:
- Potential sponsors whose values are contrary to the values of the Club.
- Potential sponsors that manufacture or promote the sale of weapons.
- Potential sponsors that create, distribute or promote pornography.
- Potential sponsors that discriminate against members of any group based on gender, ethnicity, religion, or sexual orientation.
